On June 16, 1999, Mr. Lee Jae-Yune opened a PC Bang, NetizenCity99, in the basement of a four-story building in Gunja-Dong Seoul. His friends and family, following Korean tradition, bought several "good luck/congratulation" plants to celebrate the opening. The plants, now dead, still grace the stairway leading to the PC Bang.
According to Mr. Lee, the plants died because of lack of water and light. In addition, "each plant must have received dozens of cigarrette butts, that probably didn't help." Asked why he hasn't removed the pots of dead, shriveled plants, Mr. Lee answered philosophically, "What for?"
